It is seen to be a sign of respect and devotion to light the lamp. Devotees believe that by offering light to the goddess, they are seeking her blessings and protection. The presence of light is associated with dispelling darkness, both physically and metaphorically, and inviting positive energies into the environment. The light from the lamp is believed to drive away negative energies and influences. It is thought to create a protective barrier against malevolent forces.
