Spiritual Significance of Lakshmi Devi

Lakshmi Devi statue is primarily worshipped as the goddess who bestows wealth and prosperity. She is universally revered, and her blessings are sought by all, from the richest to the poorest. Lakshmi Devi Idol is usually shown with four hands, which represent the four goals of human life considered important to the Hindu way of life: dharma, kama, artha, and moksha. In the Hindu tradition, she is believed to bring good luck, and her presence is associated with wealth and abundance in all forms - not just material wealth, but also spiritual wealth.

An idol on the home altar gives the family a place to offer their daily prayers. Its gold-tone, rose-tone or painted finish is made to sit well in the pooja room or on a shelf.

• Kept in the pooja room and worshipped with flowers, a lamp and incense.
• Specially decorated and worshipped on the festival day of the deity.
• Kept at the entrance, on a desk or in a shop as a reminder of the deity.
• A traditional gift for house-warmings, weddings and new ventures.

• Place the idol on a clean, raised stand or peeta in the pooja room, not directly on the floor.
• Many families keep the idol facing east or west; follow your own family custom.
• Offer flowers, light a lamp and incense, and recite prayers as your family does.
• Do not pour water, milk or oil over gold-tone, rose-tone or painted idols, as this can mark the finish. Wipe them with a soft, dry cloth instead.
• Avoid polish, scrubbers and chemical cleaners, and keep the idol away from moisture.
